How To: Deal with Loneliness

We all can get lonely at times... Here are the best tips on how to deal with loneliness.

I moved to a different state in 2018. I was a country girl… now I’m a city girl. I'm from a little country town where everyone pretty much knows each other. When something happens, it’s the talk of the town for weeks and sometimes months. I got the urge from God to move. So I did. I moved to a city with no friends, family or money. I knew in my heart, that this was what God wanted me to do. I was provided a job by God and that was the beginning of my new life.

I was doing good for a while. I was adjusting to my job and the new city. I made a friend and we started attending church together. On my days off, I would take myself to Starbucks, the mall and walk around the park. I was doing ok…. Then the holidays came around and I begin to feel lonely. I’m an introvert and I thoroughly enjoy being by myself. I was also extremely busy. It was not until my family came to visit me and left that I realized I missed them. I begin to experience the feelings of loneliness.

Loneliness can be hard. Here is some tips that I hope helps you:

1. Spend Time with yourself.

Spend time getting to know yourself. Fall in love with yourself. Take yourself to the movies, park, mall, bookstore. Have fun doing some of your hobbies like painting, exercising or binge watching Netflix’s. Enjoy this time being able to do what you want, wear what you want, eat what you want, etc. You don’t have to worry about anyone else and there is such a freedom in that. This is a precious time in life, so treasure the moment.

2. Spend time with God.

Getting closer to God allows you to never feel empty. It allows you to feel whole because you are whole. You don’t have to sit around waiting for someone to come into your life. God fills you and you fill yourself. Pray, worship, meditate and read your bible. Know that sometimes God must isolate you to elevate you. Gain wisdom in this season so that you can use it for the next season.

3. Work on your goals! Listen to motivational speakers.

This is the perfect time to level up in your life. What are your long term goals and your short term goals? You have all the time to get your work done now. Also listen to podcasts and motivational videos to help you maintain a positive attitude while you do your work and achieve your goals.

4. Learn something new.

Have you always wanted to learn about stocks, play the guitar or speak Spanish? Now is the time to learn. You have all this free time to learn something new. Take advantage of it.

5. Join a club, group or church.

If you are feeling lonely and would like to make friends, finding a local church may introduce you to new people. Also, you can google clubs and groups in your town.

I hope that some of these tips help you to take this time to focus on yourself, God and helps the feelings of loneliness subside 😊
